8th Grade Parent Information


 
 
 

Most clubs/activities do not require an application and meet after school at regularly scheduled meetings. If a student is interested in joining a club that does not require an application, he/she should attend a meeting during the school year or contact the club sponsor.                                                

The following activities require enrollment in a course offered at Cherokee Trail High School. Some require the approval of the instructor, and/or an audition as part of the registration process. For additional information on any course listed below, please refer to the Program of Study Course Description and Registration Guide or contact the sponsor directly.

Bands

  • Concert Band - Open to any student who has previous band experience. No audition required, sign up for Concert Band during registration.
  • Symphonic Orchestra - Intermediate level orchestra open by audition to students who play a band or string instrument. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Wind Ensemble - Students are selected by audition  and  are  the  most  advanced  band students at CTHS. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Jazz Band I - Intro level jazz band open to all students with prior band experience. No audition required, sign up for Jazz Band I during registration.
  • Jazz Band II - The most advanced jazz band is open by audition to any student. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Percussion - Open to all aspiring percussionists. Students will perform on a variety of percussion instruments. No audition required, sign up for Percussion Ensemble during registration.

  • String Orchestra - Intro level orchestra open to all students who play a string instrument. No audition required, sign up for String Orchestra during registration.

  • Chamber Orchestra - The most advanced orchestra is open by audition to any student. Auditions take place in the Spring.

Choirs

  • Choralaires - Intro level choir open to all women. No audition necessary, sign up for Choralaires during registration.
  • Men's Choir - Intro level choir open to all men. No audition necessary, sign up for Men's Choir during registration.
  • Bella Voce - Intermediate choir open to women by audition only. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Cantare - Select women's choir open by audition only. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Con Brio - This mixed choir is the most advanced choir at CT and is open by audition to all students. Auditions take place in the Spring.

Dance

All dance courses provide the opportunity for students to participate in a Dance Showcase. All dance courses can be taken for Wellness/Fitness credit or for Fine Arts credit.

  • Dance 1 - Intro level dance class open to all students. No audition is required, sign up for Dance 1 during registration.
  • Dance 2 - Intermediate dance course open to students by audition. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Dance 3 - Intermediate/advanced dance course open to students by audition. Auditions take place in the Spring.
  • Dance Composition - The most advanced dance course offered at Cherokee Trail is open to students by audition. Auditions are held in the Spring.

Student Leadership

Student Leadership class is an opportunity for students from all grades to represent their student body, the school and the community. Students serve as the student body officers and class representatives. An application process is required, and applications are due no later than 3:00 PM on Friday, February 10.

Newspaper/Yearbook

Students in these classes plan and produce the school newspaper and the yearbook. The prerequisite for both of these classes is Introduction to Journalism. Freshmen interested in joining the Newspaper or Yearbook staff as sophomores should register for Introduction to Journalism during registration.  

DECA

DECA members develop a better understanding of the business world, become conscious of their civic obligations, develop social poise and leadership ability. CTHS DECA students apply their business skills in the school store in the commons. Members attend conferences and learn how to lead and participate in group discussions, work effectively with committees and engage in practical problem solving. Freshmen cannot join DECA. For students interested in joining DECA as sophomores, enrollment in a designated business course is required. 

Speech & Debate

Students prepare for competition in debate, public speaking, and oral interpretation with assistance from coaches and attend tournaments, which are held during the year. Students have the opportunity to letter and join the National Speech and Debate Association. Students interested in joining the Speech and Debate class must complete an application in the Spring and should register for Speech and Debate during registration.
